The sweet science of boxing always interested me from a young age – specifically the guy in the middle with the microphone and the sharp tuxedo. The boxing bug bit really hard upon returning from a gap year overseas with the chance meeting of my first boxing coach who invited me to come in and train at his new gym. It was there that I was asked by the manager: “We need a voice for our fight night and you have a big mouth, would you like to be the announcer?”
Several years and hundreds of shows later, I have become known in sporting circles as the boxing ring announcer. In March 2013 I announced the welter weight world title fight between Matthew Hatton and Chris van Heerden. This was my first TV show which happened to be LIVE throughout Africa and the Middle East on Super Sport and the UK and USA on Boxnation. Since then I have announced and served as a play-by-play TV commentator to ETV Boxing. Not limited to boxing, I have also announced numerable MMA fight cards (Cape Fight League being the most prominent which airs on Blackbelt TV).
As a measure of my versatility I have been lucky enough to be the MC for Up The Creek Music Festival main stage, bar flare competitions and one memorable mud wrestling competition (I was younger, just starting out and it was at a local strip club). Given time to research, I can MC anything.
Aside from public speaking and commentary I am also a boxing writer having written many articles for local boxing magazines and the back pages of the local paper. Lookout for my boxing blog coming soon…
